Essence explores the unseen depths within us. The layers of experience, emotion, and complexity that exist beneath the surface of what others can perceive. Rooted in the experience of living with invisible chronic illness, the series reflects on the contrast between outward appearance and inner reality. Much of what shapes us remains hidden, felt deeply but rarely visible to the outside world. Across three pieces, the work gradually moves inward. Each piece reveals a deeper level of the internal landscape, moving beyond what is immediately recognizable toward something more intimate, complex, and fundamental. At its core, Essence is an exploration of what lies beneath our visible selves. The unseen struggles, intricate systems, and quiet depths that make us who we are.

The Aperio series explores the tension between external expectations and internal identity. Each piece reflects the quiet struggle of navigating societal pressure while attempting to remain connected to one’s authentic self. Aperio is a study of becoming, a process of peeling back the layers shaped by expectation, pressure, and perception. Each piece exists in the space between who we are and who we feel we are supposed to be. Through layered composition and intentional contrast, this body of work captures moments of both disconnection and clarity, inviting the viewer to consider what it means to exist freely without losing who they are. It reflects the quiet resistance of holding onto identity in a world that constantly tries to redefine it, existing as both an escape and a return. Kate wanted to capture her personal struggles navigating the labels of society while finding inner peace and true identity. Through this series, she invites the viewer into that space of external conflict and internal resolution, where self-discovery is not linear, but deeply personal and continually evolving.

What started as color and abstraction slowly became places never seen, but always felt drawn to. Growing up in a small town, there has always been a pull toward the energy, art, and bright lights of city life. These pieces explore that feeling, existing somewhere between imagination and reality.
